[SMM Analysis: Major Progress Made by UK's Ilika and South Korea's SK On in Solid-State Battery Field] UK's Ilika and South Korea's SK On have achieved a series of significant breakthroughs in the R&D and commercialization of solid-state battery technology, indicating a brighter future for this field. Ilika's solid-state battery prototype has passed rigorous testing by automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers, confirming that its performance fully meets industry standards.
SMM July 10 News:

In May 2025, international companies such as Ilika from the UK and SK On from South Korea made significant progress in the field of solid-state battery technology, which is expected to accelerate the commercialization of this technology. Ilika's solid-state battery prototype has passed verification by automotive OEMs and Tier 1 testing partners, meeting performance standards. Meanwhile, SK On collaborated with Professor Kim Dong-won's team from Hanyang University to release the latest research findings on extending the lifespan of sulphide all-solid-state batteries.

Ilika's solid-state battery prototype passes key customer tests

On May 1, 2025, Ilika, a publicly listed firm on the London Stock Exchange, announced that its latest R&D product, the P1 Goliath solid-state battery for vehicles, had passed tests conducted by multiple original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1 suppliers, achieving technical goals and meeting performance specifications. The parts and systems produced by the companies involved in the tests are applied in vehicles from some of the world's largest automakers.

The tests included evaluations of the battery prototype's charge and discharge performance, energy storage and release capabilities, as well as stability after rapid and consecutive multiple uses (i.e., "accelerated cycling"). Additionally, the test results showed that the entire battery batch exhibited good reproducibility and expected electrochemical characteristics.
